Is She Staying For Tutoring Today?
Is She Staying For Tutoring Today? My friend and I were talking the other day about the 'I'm not her tutor' mentality of some of our female friends. She had overheard two women from the gym discussing their new boyfriends, one of whom looked like a very good prospect. The second woman told her that she was not her tutor. We started laughing about it, but when she went over to chat with the guy, he looked at her and said 'Oh you're not my tutor, you're here for tutoring today.'Now, I would be very willing to be there for a woman, but this seemed to be an example of 'Men are not to be tutored'. Or maybe, more than one? It was very strange that she was there for a little bit longer than the tutoring was supposed to take.Another example of how things get blown out of proportion. And yet, when a man goes out with a woman they have to be willing to do all the 'stuff' they would not be willing to do with the same woman. This 'stuff' usually comes in the form of hanging out with the girl. I a m not sure what it is, but I know I do not want to hang out with someone if I am dating them. The last time I was on a date with a woman I did not know and had planned to go to the movies we went out to dinner, and then to the movies. She came up to me afterward and said, 'Did you like the movie?' So, I explained that I did like it, but we did not talk about it for long because we had to go. So, I decided to give this example a try myself. Now, one other example would be, would be guys with attractive wives stay at home and cook? Of course, it would not work, but still it is interesting to look at. One of my closest friends is married to a beautiful woman, so maybe she would be better off with a boyfriend who was a chef rather than a secretary or assistant.Another example would be, would be guys with cute girls stay at home? Again, this would not work, but still it is interesting to look at. My best friend and I are both married and our husbands both have wives. But even though we hav e wives, we still see each other and go out and eat all the time. One more example would be, would be women with hot guys leave to go have dinner with the guy. To me, it is not a very attractive look to walk out the door with a guy you have just met. However, that is the way of the world, and sometimes it can be a 'shock to the system'.

College Cost Calculators
College Cost Calculators College tuition, room and board, scholarships, financial aid, meal plans are all screaming different numbers at high school students and their parents. Adding and subtracting these numbers in attempts to figure out exactly how much a specific college will cost can be a difficult, agonizing task. But, lifes getting easier for students and their parents because all colleges will be forced to post a net price calculator on their Web site by 2011, according to an article in The Washington Post. The actual costs of college can be very different from its advertised sticker price. There are many additional costs that colleges tack on to tuition, and many students and parents do not see all of these costs. Some students are not fully aware of all these costs until they have set foot on campus for freshman year, and are faced with hefty bills to pay. Also, most colleges do not decide financial aid and merit-based scholarships until after a student has already applied. Sometimes colleges will give out large amounts of financial aid late in the spring of a students senior year of high school. Therefore, the financial aid news could come after ones college decision has already been made. However, the college cost calculator that will go into effect in 2011 will give students and parents better estimates about how much a specific college will cost. Some colleges such as MIT, Yale University, Williams College, University of Arkansas and Cornell have been using their own, individual price calculators. The federal government recently provided a uniform college cost calculator template with the help of StudentAid.com and Think Ahead LLC. By 2011, all colleges must adopt some form of a cost calculator. The federal program is uniform for all colleges. This is one of its biggest flaws because not all colleges offer financial aid and merit-based scholarships on similar criteria. The program asks students about eight questions regarding family income. However, the program does not ask about family assets and income exclusions. Also, the program does not consider merit-based scholarships. The federal cost calculator is likely to be inaccurate at times. A college cost calculators is more accurate if it is produced by and is unique to each individual college. It can be personalized to the amount of aid that a college has, and the competition of other students who are applying.

US Trailing In Higher Education
US Trailing In Higher Education The United States is no longer the global leader in postsecondary degrees, according to an article in the The Washington Post. A postsecondary degree is any degree that one attains after high school. It could be an Associates Degree, Bachelors Degree or Masters Degree. This trend is consistent with other findings that k-12 students in the United States are lagging behind many other foreign students. The Washington Post cited a recent report from the College Board, stating that the United States has fallen from first to 12th in the number of adults aged 25-34 with a postsecondary degree. Only 40.4 percent of adults in the aforementioned age range hold degrees, as of 2007. The report stated that Canada is now the global leader in adults with postsecondary degrees. 55.8 percent of Canadian adults have a postsecondary degree, also as of 2007. This report was presented to Capitol Hill on Thursday, July 22nd. Politicians and upper-echelon educators have posted a goal of becoming the global leader in education by 2025, with 55 percent of the adult population holding a postsecondary degree. President Barack Obama, however, has slightly different goals. His American Graduation Initiative aims at reclaiming global leadership for adults with postsecondary degrees by 2020. This report only considered young adults aged 25-34. The United States ranks sixth, globally when older adults are considered. The College Boards report is creating concern among politicians and educators because Generation Y (age group 18-34) is speculated to be the first generation in the modern era to be less-educated than their parents. However, the percentage of young adults with postsecondary degrees has actually risen from 38.1 percent in 2000 to 41.6 in 2008, according to The Washington Posts citation of census data. The report also ranked the most educated states. The District of Columbia was considered a state, and it is the most educated with 62.2 percent of adults aged 25-34 holding a postsecondary degree. Many policy-makers and education administrators are implementing programs to foster stronger education in the United States. They are recommending that state and national leaders implement universal pre-kindergarten education programs, even for low-income students. Policy-makers are pushing for more efficient college counseling programs that significantly reduce dropout rates and more streamlined college admission programs. It is believed that some of these programs could produce more college graduates.

Like Mom Always Says, Safety First
Like Mom Always Says, Safety First Photo by west.m via Flickr.com People are beginning to put their whole life on these social media sites and not thinking about who is actually reading these boards and what they are or can do with this information. Think about it, as I sit here right now typing this I have one tab open for Facebook and another tab open for Twitter. Just by browsing through them I can see all kinds of âcheck-insâ about where people are at and who they are with, and if that wasnât enough, it also shows on viewers a map on how to get there. While it may be fun to check-in with all the people you are hanging out with at times it can be dangerous. What if you and your roommates are all going out of town for the weekend and you just let the whole world know via a status or a tweet? Now your apartment, house, or dorm room is free and clear for the taking. Not even just check-ins, but the most dangerous thing about not being smart on social media sites are all the pictures after pictures uploaded. Each picture showing a different aspect of your life, or of someone elseâs life, and while some maybe cute pictures of you and your little sister or posing with your friends, others can get very dangerous and even incriminating. People may think that itâs cool to post all kinds of pictures of themselves at the bar or tailgates drinking, but what most people donât realize that once you put something on the internet it is there forever. You can delete all you want but with intent archives posts and pictures from as far back as you can remember are still stored out there. And with this ever coming popularity of social media, many business now use social media background checks along with other factors in deciding on whether or not you will get the job. So all the comments, updates, tweets, and pictures that you have uploaded can still be f ound out there for all to see. Photo by philcampbell via Flickr.com So what about the new types of social media that can be accessed from your smartphone via apps like Instagram or Viddy. Well, they may fall into the gray area about finding all the pictures and videos you post over the Internet but you have to remember that technology is ever changing. I mean just look at the recent purchase of Instagram by Facebook for one billion dollars. All the photos that were once safe from the Internet will soon if they havenât already obtain a faster upload rate to Facebook instantly. Donât mention the fact that there are already options on these sites to have a direct upload to several other social media networks. So just think about things before you put them out for the whole world to see. Just because you think something is funny doesnât mean that it should be up for the whole world to view. And if itâs not something that you would feel comfortable seeing on a big screen projector while sitting in a room full of your peers or if you wouldnât mind your grandparents seeing it, then why would you want the rest of the world, including your future employee seeing it?
Do I need a tutor for the 11 Plus Exam
Do I need a tutor for the 11 Plus Exam Grammar schools (and many selective independents) select their pupils on the strength of their performance in the 11 Plus examination. This exam tests applicants on English and maths, verbal reasoning (VR) and non-verbal reasoning (NVR), something your child may need help with. Vernal and non-verbal reasoning tests are designed to assess aptitude rather than knowledge, while maths and English build on what's already been learnt at school. If your child's school has suggested the 11 Plus or you are interested in your child taking this exam, you need to sign up by July of year 5. The exams will take place in September of Year 6 and sometimes in January of Year 6. Preparation for the 11 Plus should, therefore, take place in Year 5 and the summer before starting Year 6. How do I know if the 11 Plus is for my child? Firstly, talk to your 's child's teacher. They can give you an honest indication of whether a school will suit your child, as well as telling you what your child needs to do to pass the exam. Be careful of evaluating your child's chances based on where they are in their class. The National Curriculum levels and your child's teachers are better indicators of whether your child is suitable for these exams. How do I know if a particular school is right for my child? It's vital to go with your child to the open days of the schools you are interested in, as this will help you to determine if: The school is right for your child If your child wants to go there What the examination process is like Whether you like the school Does my child need a tutor to pass? There is massive competition for places, which is why so many people use 11 Plus Tutors for preparation and exam help. However, it's important to differentiate what tutors are employed for with the Eleven Plus. Tutoring for the Eleven Plus focuses on verbal and non-verbal reasoning, and maths and English practice papers so pupils can see how questions are phrased and how they need to answer the questions. A tutor can also help in specific areas like maths and English and even with confidence, but cannot guarantee any child will get accepted into a school they desire. That said it's always worth checking that an 11 Plus tutor knows the school you're considering and has prepared children for the 11 Plus before. Maths tutors and English tutors can also help if you're looking for tuition in one subject area only. Can I do it without a tutor? Yes, you can. There are 11 Plus practice papers and sites to help pupils online, and you can also buy books full of tips and practice papers and ask your child's current teacher for help. What else should I consider? Your child's personality is also worth considering as taking the 11 Plus as these exams can cause quite a lot of anxiety and stress for some children.
